The novella's sample got me all hot and bothered and the book had much of the same affect. 

A sexy stranger, a brutal contest, a mocha skinned princess with long flowing hair Ahem, sounds like this was this based on me so you know I devoured it!

Kudos to Fox, loved this book so much that I bought another and another to read and enjoy!

Ravaged by Jaide fox

C-mac and I were huge fans of the Starz original series "Spartacus" in all its glory. Obviously we watched for different reasons;

Cmac: "What did he just say?"
Me: "there's dialog in this show?"
Cmac: "Be serious, What did he say"
Me: "Seriously, I'm only watching for the man meat, beefcake, to ogle these studs muffins. Stop sighing, you sound so exasperated"
Cmac: "So degrading. Do you ever think of anything else? 
Me: "shopping and shoes. Stop rolling your eyes! You asked"
Cmac: "I'll just rewind it"
Me: "ooh, goody! More muffins!

So with the last episode of the muffin show having been aired in march I was missing a little blood and sex in my life. Enter "Ravaged (pleasure masters(futuristic BDSM Alpha Shifters)" by Jaide fox.

The story of a gladiator winning the ultimate prize, a willing sex slave. Did I mention that he has a magical member? Uhm, yeah! Read and enjoyed!

Donor (Dresdon Coven)

I saw this book in my inbox from Amazon.com so I downloaded the sample and immediately fell in love with this dark gritty love story.

Elaina was once a tracker of Dresdan, an ancient species of vampire. For years, she served District 5, until she learned their prime agenda is to create a new race of humans Before Elaina can expose the truth, District 5 discovers that her blood type contains the elements to create a successful hybrid. She becomes the hunted, but protection is found while in the presence of one vampire, Vicq.

Vicq who dies because of her. Or did he?

For a novella I found the characters to be well rounded and very believable. I am now a fan of Mrs. Kirk and will continue to read her novels future works. The story is great, with lots of action and well written romance. I pictured the story in deep crimson and shadows. 

My only gripe is towards the end in the nightclub. A few new characters are introduced towards the end and their interactions with the hero and heroine are kind of uncomfortable other than that A+ for Donor.

Falling for a good book...

Edge of the falls by Nazarea Andrews

Sabah is an orphan child taken in by the mysterious ‘Mistress’ after being abdoned  to the slums as a child. Soon she grows up and falls in love, knowing her place living outside the great city nearby.

But when a ban-wolf saves her life, Sabah begins to change.

The book synopsis says that it’s a romantic retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but I found this book to be so much more than just a children’s story. I fell in love with the world that the author created. Not that it’s a magical fairytale with talking teacups and other server ware, a dark dystopia where a beautiful girl has more than just furry beasts to worry about when civilized gentry can change one’s fate on a whim.

Sabah is the best kind of heroine; fiercely passionate and strong, but also willing to be open and vulnerable when she finally sets her sites on what her heart desires.

I felt myself wrapped in Sabah’s story; fearing, feeling, betrayed, but also growing as Sabah did. I would recommend this story to anyone that enjoys a good well rounded read. The characters are magnificently written  and the story is thoroughly entertaining.

He's so my type....

He's so shy by Lena Matthews

Gillian and Lennon are co-workers. She mistakes him for being shy and decides to make him her project. He plays along. This is a good dirty book! I love the character, both the hero and heroine are well thought out with their motivations clearly made at the beginning of the story. Gillian likes the 'white guy' but won't admit it, so she takes him out for drinks and finds out that he's not shy at all. I admit my favorite character is her friend, she could by my wing-women any time. The big reveal in this book involves a party at a friends house, No I would NEVER participate in that kind of party. But the freak in me enjoyed reading about it. I also loved that the shero of this book was not afraid to find her love; I'm over women who run away from a good man. i would love to read more from this series.

There were a few errors:

Location 343 "And blind as a bat is she thought he could possible find any.....---> should be "possibly"

Location 1273 "Every since their little office escapade..." --> "Ever since"

The error at location 1373 is too adult to quote, but the wrong word is used, should be "fingering"

My new favorite word and  Favorite line of the book, Location 1226 "a fast convert to the religion of assianity"- Yeah, I will be using this to describe C-mac cause I converted him personally!

False starts for the first week of April.....

Abandoned but not alone by Theresa L. Henry

A whole lot of telling without saying anything.

An immature annoying  heroine
1. Good thing you're an adult cause your parents couldn't afford to feed you
2. Hiding behind a grown stranger
3. A blurted chicken story

I have no idea the time and place the story takes place or any idea what any of the characters look like. DNF'd (Did not finish)

Needing Nita by Norah Wilson

Here is an example of the writing in this book "She'd only had" ---> translates to---> 'she had only had'

Enough said.

'Had'

1. 80% of the time its not necessary
2. Over usage- its annoyance to read over and over
3. Sometimes we write the way we talk to make our characters more realistic
4. Passive-aggressive: as the author its your story, take control and make me believe it
5. Feel a bit ameteur. I don't have the same complaint with GRRM or Anne Rice or James Patterson.

Please take my advice and re-read your work

The Admission by Jamallah Bergman

This book had so many errors, annoying characters, and No I'm not a hypocrite, I'm admit to being awful with grammar and I'm not charging for people to read my blog, it's free. So, if you're going to charge readers you will come under fire for having grammatical errors.

Location 470
"She stopped to straightening her clothes and took a deep..." should have been "Straighten"

The characters father is supposed to be verbally abusive (always negative and hurtful), but his lines to her aren't that hateful.

Location 680 or so:
"I like it the way it was, Cathy, I would appreciate it if you wire it the way it used to be for the party"

In my mind this is a case of "Don't talk about it, be about it" If the character uses his words as ammo than demonstrate that. Don't tell me 5011 (yeah, I stole that from my lil cousin) times that he's mean to her.  Show me.

Though this is a gorgeous cover and I'm not afraid to try something else by this author.

Happy Birthday Mr. Washington by C. Jackson

I wanted to like this book, but I couldn't do it. The Heroine is different and I usually like that, but I couldn't like the Hero. He breaks up with his girlfriend and goes out with a different girl on the very same day. That was a turn off to me. I also had a hard time with the sex scene's, they were boring and I hate boring sex!

Magic under glass by Jaclyn Dolamore

Nimira, a girl from Tasim  who has traveled far from home to try and change her fortune. A "trouser girl" trained in the art of dancing, a novelty that has fallen out of fashion and has her living under harsh conditions until an opportunity from a young sorcerer introduces her to a haunted automotan that throws her into the middle of the fiary war.

Intersting characters with a well thought out story that I became engrossed in almost immediately. I liked that this was a unique story: automotan ( wind up robots), humans erecting a wall between themselves and fairies, but mostly the story of Nimira.

This is a solid read worth the charging price, have at it!

No energy

"Naughty Nooners: peak energy" by Afton Locke 

I liked the idea of a short erotic read and found this Elloras Cave book available free on my Kindle, so I downloaded it and commenced to reading.

Ouch, this is bad. There is no goal in this book. A scientist is looking for a way to harnass sexual energy. The sandwich delivery girl wants to 'do him' so he convinces her to be a guinea pig for his experiment.

The only good thing about this book is that the male lead is very dextarious, otherwise its a confusing bore. Skip it.

Warrior come out and play

Warrior by Violet Dubrinsky

This is the fantasy love tale of Jaisyn head strong princess of Lytheria and stubborn Vulcan king of Morden.

The good:
So surprised how much I liked this book, though I'm obsessed with "Song for ice and fire" by George R.R. Martin, I just wasn't sure I would like another epic fantasy. So, so in love with this story; strong heroine, twists and turns, action and a good looking hero. Yes, please!

I'm jus sayin:
I'm so in love with V.D. right now. All of her books are good reads; well developed and interesting characters that can be both romantic and strong without making the story feel contrived . First Viktor, now Varian/Vulcan so in love with these manly men who have a sensitive heart and an adult imagination. 

V.D. Please, can I have another? And another two staring Varian, who I'm in lust with his controlled demeanor and of course one staring Malcolm. What about Malcolm, does he get over Jaisyn and find love? Please continue this series!

Crash straight to my heart

Crash by Pepper Pace

Ah-Mah-Zingly gifted writer Pepper Pace has amazed me once again. In Crash Pepper she brings together two of the unlikliest characters; Sophie and Lucas. Sophie is a middle aged writer who lives and works alone in her Cincinnati home. Lucas is a twenty something homeless man, one of Americas thousands of disregarded youth who's young lives have been filled with loss and rejection. The circumstances of their meeting is steeped in violence and cruelty, but the writer handles it well, even for sensitive readers.

The good: 
Great storyline, sweet romance; it will make you think one way or another. Younger man, older woman; black, white; bisexual, heterosexual.

The bad:
I read a few reviews where the reader wasn't able to "believe" the love story ; I can see that, but when reading sometimes you have to let go of reality and let the characters speak to you.

I'm jus sayin:
I really liked this story, I think the violent scenes were handled tastefully and respectfully. Lucas is a good protagonist, though if you asked me if I could be with a man who confessed having a consensual sexual relationship with another man my answer is HELL NO. However it didn't bother the character, so It didn't effect my critique of the book. This is a good read with some excellent characters, I dare you to give it a go!

Wisteria

I found the story line to be very interesting; at first I was like, "young adult, interracial romance, Zombies and aliens, really?" then I thought about it and decided, "hhhmmpph, why not" So on I read.

The Good:
I found that their were a lot of ideas in this book and many of them were good, my only problem was with execution. 

The Bad"
Literally, my kindle is full of notes and highlights questioning the author. For example, I'm from Ohio and have never visited England, what is the isle of Smythe like? What is the terrain? Logos, I've never heard of, I also had to look that up, because the author never explained anything about there either. There is no chemistry between Wisteria and Bach with the exception of one two scenes when they are alone in the tower and clock, otherwise their relationship is awkward with forced drama instead of real emotion. I don't understand the kind of abuse Wisteria takes from the kids and adults' calling a person a "bonobos" (another term I had to look up) is the imaginary "do not cross this line" for me; yet, Wisteria is called one several times and never defends herself, I'm left thinking that she's infuriatingly weak and maybe believes herself to be a "bonobos." Then their were the awkward sentences/dialogue and the reiteration. I have to be honest, this is my biggest pet peeve from independent authors, EDITING. Good editing would have caught the reiteration of mundane ideas and suggested the reinforcement of big ideas and concepts, like the FAMILY. I know nothing about this alien race, because the author didn't tell me very much.

Overall: skip it

I'm jus saying: I really dug the cover and the book was free, so I read it

Wheels of Steel 1,2,3

Pepper Pace
Jason is an up and coming DJ, college student, and disabled; his group Wheels of Steel is comprised of people as misfits and handicapped, but they are made cool by their talent. Robin is a shy girl struggling to make ends meet and find herself all at once. Robin takes a job as Jason's home healthcare aid creating a saga that takes them along a musical journey of self-discovery and love. 

The Good:
Interesting and unconventional characters, good story and a plot that keeps you interested and excited about the next installment.

The Bad:
Not very much, maybe some interesting physical descriptions of the characters 

I'm jus sayin:

I admit to only reading books about perfect characters, check out my book boyfriend if you don't believe me; however, I read one of Mrs. Pace's books, Beast and I was hooked. The stories of these characters bring me joy, I'm not perfect, why wouldn't I want to read about people who aren't perfect either? This story in particular had me laughing, crying and a little excited; that is what I love about reading, I learned so much about people with Cerebral Palsy, the struggles that people who I would walk past with pity face everyday, but maintain their spirit. No, these characters aren't necessarily as realistic as some people with the real disabilities, but it helped me to open my eyes and really see people for who they are and not what they suffer from.

Antagonize me:

 Why I prefer the villain                            

Most people's favorite character in a book is the protagonist the good guy; mine is the antagonist the adversary of the hero. Yes, I love a good baddy; not to say that I'm evil or want the world annihilated, government thrown into chaos (cause the politicians do a great job of that themselves), or for them to marry/kill the girl; but, I do some key things about them................ 

 No restraint; wouldn't all of us love to let go? Really say and do what we want, "That color makes your skin look like oatmeal," or "No, you are not God's gift to women, you are God's gift to 1-800 numbers and dating services." Some of us actually say those things, but that "us" would never jump up on the "returns" counter at Target and start a riot would we? Yes, but only in our fantasies. The villain does just that, they cross the line, no matter where that line may be as long as they achieve their goal, it's worth it to them. 

They are having so much fun abandoning society's rules. While the good guy is straining to save the world the bad guy is having a blast blowing it to smithereens, I envy that a little. And, the more ruthless, despicable, & nasty they are, the more I can't wait for them to get their comeuppance. Hello, Joffrey Baratheon (from Song for Fire and Ice series) I'm talking to you! 

 I'm just sayin: Doesn't the protagonist get on your nerves even a little bit? They're so annoyingly "perfect" that I want to punch them in the face, Yeah that's right Sookie Stackhouse series with your free house, bikini sun bathing, every man I meet falls in love with me self. I'm working on my left jab just for you. Not that Sookie's life is perfect, but she never has to compromise and everything always works out for her in the end. And then there are characters like Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games Trilogy; a selfish, hot headed heoine who I completely hated. When marching to her death, Katniss tearfully says goodbye to her sister, but then turns to her mother; who she never forgives for sinking into depression after her father's death; and says, don't get depressed when I die. Ok, sure I won't be sad about the death of my oldest child. Total Bee-yotch! Did I want the capital to fall? Heh, sure. But, did I love it when Peeta choked her out? Yes, please! 

 I'm sayin so authors should listen:  I love the villain, they are often my favorite character, so I hate when someone takes a perfectly good baddy and castrates them. I recently read a book where the bad gal turned to a good gal towards the end of the book. Boo! How boring I don't want to feel sorry for the baddy, like Cersi Baratheon in a S.F.I. Who am I supposed to hate? Who will I yell at as I read? Whose death will I cheer? Stop! Keep them gloriously bad and let me love-hate them. Thankfully, Martin took the hint and Cersi is now back on top and should be madder and badder than ever in the next book!

Trent Kalamack of The Hollows series by Kim Harrison








In case you've never read the hollows series, here's a short synopsis: The Hollow's are the fictional neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio in the series that all the "other" type of people live; werewolves, witches, and vampires. Trent though, lives on an estate in a human suburb and is a wealthy businessman/thug and savvy entrepreneur ( Which is what my cousin pookie who sells "stuff" on the corner calls himself).was the only child of wealthy parents and philanthropist; with a dark side. Handsome, tall, athletic, powerful and intelligent Trent is almost the perfect package for the following reasons:    

Dark side: Ruthless and driven which is a good thing when it comes to business, but a bad thing when he has a scientist working for him killed for refusing to create stronger illegal drugs. Harsh right? But in Trent's mind necessary cause said drugs help the sick heal faster.

Honorable: Kind of, he does make arrangements for said scientists ill daughter to have a scholarship and trust fund. He also has several foundations for orphans, & helps the protagonist of the series several times. He also bashes her head against a gravestone, but she made him her slave(in name only), so she kind of deserved it. 

This picture and the one above are of Rupert Friend, but he is my interpretation of what Kim Harrison's character would look like if her were a real person (With blonder hair, of course)

Wicked sense of humor: Turned heroine into a mink; kept her in a hamster cage complete with wheel and water bottle. 

I'm just sayin: Sarcastic, intelligent and a little something other ( I'm not telling, it's a series secret) mixed into a sinful package that will challenge, protect, and honor me? Yes, Please!

Kindle Love

Yes, I am a Kindle Fire snob; I refuse to read physical books and am offended if you suggested such a ridiculous idea. What would I do with a physical book? Read it without a size or font option? Without a carousel of my book cover lovies to spin through? P-shaw, wash your mouth out with soap and read the following...................

 Back health:
Seriously, I read 1000 page books; can you imagine carrying one of those with my 64oz of H20, notebooks, and lunch to work? The chiropractor would have my book money, with the Kindle I can carry all of the George R.R. books (He's written more than just S4FI) and thousands of others in my hand bag only add about 15oz to it. That's less than my water and more money in my pocket for books! Yay! 

Convenience; I always take my books with me to work, I read during breaks and lunches, it helps me escape my day. But, what if I want to read something else ( I sometimes lose interest in a book, or another storyline fills me with anticipation)? Because of my kindle, I can read my entire library of books whenever I feel like it; waiting for the Doctor, restaurants, airports, on long rides with hubby. Whenever the mood strikes, my arsenal is there. Or, I can borrow from digital downloads, the public libraries (more to come) website for borrowing books with none of those pesky fees when I return the book late, cause I will return the book late. 

 General Laziness;
Haven't you figured that out about me yet? I don't want to carry heavy things and I'm too lazy to drive myself to the library to pick up or return books, especially with gas at $4.00/ga. And I don't have to leave my house or reading corner to get my books. Or, leave the bed if I want to wake up in the wee hours and watch YouTube or 'research' something ridiculous that I just thought about,  like "wang chung" or supernova, first the movie than the stellar explosion. That is the best way to start your day isn't? Doing something relaxing and joyful that is guilty and feels like sin, but isn't, like eating truffles.

 I'm in love with certain books and characters:
So much so that I have to them with me at all times. What if I need a pick me up that only Shelly Laurenston can provide? Or, a really good mystery a-la James Patterson? Or, a good and dirty love story like Owner of his heart by Theodara Taylor or a good makes you so mad you cry book like James Baldwin's Native son? I have them all with me, so I never get bored. That is unless I have hit the end of the internet, in that case there is always going outside and taking a walk or riding a bike (Yes I do those things too!).
