Why I love her: Hot romantic leads, beyond average female leads, and stories that jump up and out of the page and into my mind.

Favorite character: Their are two, Fenris and Nathan. Both can be described in two words; Yes please!

Why I love her: for me she is up their with AnneRice and Stephen King, but a little better because she made this non-girl girl (I don't care for flowers or chocolates or sonnets. I loathe the Bronte sisters and went to a football game to celebrate my one yearaversary) she introduced me to homeless characters, heroes with disabilities and made sex symbols out of physical deformities. Yes she gets points for being a fellow Ohioan, but more points for teaching me to enjoy reading 'real' people.  

Favorite Book: I like all of the books of her urban vampire series, but Wheels of steel is the absolute best. I've never met anyone with M.S. and was probably one of the bigots that stared and glared when


 someone drooling or head lolling passed me by in their wheel chair. Maybe I felt pity and thanked God it wasn't me. But, now I have a glimpse inside a person who's body won't act right, but their brain is functioning perfectly. I don't hold pity, but say "hi" to a person making their way the best way they can just like me.

 The narcoleptic vampire series 

Why I love her: Fearless. Unapologetic. Awesome! Seriously, who else would write a narcoleptic vampire with a Viking for a maker/husband/master? She dumps the controlling Adonis for a super hot boyfriend with multiple personalities disorder. Oh. And, this heroine tricks, fights, and loves her way to becoming a mistress of her own fate. 

Favorite character: There are so many that I love, but I'm going to with Zeek; she is just so unique in a bookshelf full of the same tired characters. She is strong, brave, and sexy without even trying. Check out my review of Zeek's loving Thorn.

Why I love him: I can't. Just can't explain to you how awesome a writer he is. The skin trade is one of the best werewolf books ever written. No, I didn't just declare that. It was declared back when I was still reading about the Berenstain bears! 

I'm jus sayin; I get all fangirl and get mad and happy with excitement when I discuss S4F&I. To keep myself from pulling an all nighter singing his praises I will simply say, "Who the h-e-double hockey sticks is Jon's mother. I need to know!" 

Favorite character: Tyrion Lannister. Witty, wobbly, and fiercely intelligent Tyrion is a point of view character playing the game in all the right and wrong ways. Often surprising the other players and the reader with just how fundamental reading and a handi-capable attitude really is.



Kim Harrison: The Hollows  (my review of book 10)

Kim Harrison, dark urban fantasy author of the New York Times bestselling The Outlaw Demon Wails, was born and raised in the upper Midwest. After gaining her bachelors in the sciences, she moved to South Carolina, where she has remained since. When not at her desk, she is most likely to be found chasing down good chocolate, exquisite sushi, or the ultimate dog chew--for her dogs. (blurb curtsey of goodreads)

Why I love her: She writes in colors, senses, and music to describe her star characters experiences. Rachel Morgan is a bad witch, pack member and huntswomen. 

My favorite character: Trent Kalamack (Previous book boyfriend. Read why). Love. Hate. Want to date. He is a baddy, once keeping Rachel in mink form ( she turned herself into the rodent so she could break into his facilities and prove that he was making an illegal drug) in a cage in his office. He went so far as to put her in underground rat fights. So wrong. But, she gets him back when she makes him her familiar, which is literally making him her slave. His moral code has nothing to do with laws; his goal  is any means necessary. Oh. And so you know, Trent is no Nino Brown manufacturing crack, he’s making brimstone, a drug administered by Doctors to ease pain and increase healing. Trent offers terminally ill children a chance to live without pain or suffering.

Why I love her: This was the first book that I read featuring a true alpha female. When I say true I mean, my heroine remained tough as nails in submitting and after. Freya makes strong sexy, muscles in all. Just ask her mates Rayne & Fenris. 

Favorite character: Rayne. Sweet pretty rain made me want my own pretty girly-boy to call my own; strong enough to win a fight against bigger stronger wolves, yet submissive enough to let me pull him into an alcove to have my way with him.

Why I love her: Her herione's common sense attitude are similar to my own. We both like to read drama cause we refuse to live it. Of course I don't have a succubus living inside me or two mates, so it's a little easier for me.

Why I love her: This is a woman with imagination and world building skills that reach the atmosphere they are so big. I have read all of her NEO series and can't wait to read more 

Favorite character: I get lady bonkers for bad guys and this author gives me fits! "Q" you meanie, I heart you

Lion And The Falcon (Furry United Coalition) 

I couldn't make it past the sample for this book. There were too many characters with backgrounds that I didn't like this sample enough to buy the book.

Swan And The Bear (Furry United Coalition):

This was just an okay read for me. I found some problems that kep me from loving the book:

Repetitive
Wrong words
Needs better editing
The correct term is stylist, men don't go to hairdressers. Barbers or stylists

But overall, I enjoyed the read enough to continue reading Mrs. Langlais; i mean come on, she has a book titled "Delicate freakin Flower" I have to love her just for that!

The Space Between by Victoria H. Wilson

I sighed a lot during this book, these characters and their romance was so wonderfully written that I even cried at the end. No, thats a lie. I blubbered with snot and ugly face.

Drake is an Asian American adopted into a wealthy and influential caucasian family. Lacey is a bi-racial girl struggling to make ends meet while her stars are aligning.

Their paths cross and fireworks start, but they end in police sirens. Can two people from very different backgrounds come togehter in the space between?

Uhm, yes. And I enjoyed every word of it.

Have you ever fallen truly, madly, heels behind head in love with a character? I have several times. And Drake is now on my Hall Pass list. Damn he's sexy; deep voice, mahogany eyes, warm heart and a strong libido. I kinda want to be Lacey.

Fav line: "She took it like she wanted it. Like she owned it"
Errors:

Location. 2044  "..do you mind if I braid you hair?"

Location 3656 "Cooper came back and handled me a..."

Location. "Standing stark still, his mom didn't say a work."

Locatio 4853 "..it was hard to image that a small..."

Falling for a good book...

Edge of the falls by Nazarea Andrews

Sabah is an orphan child taken in by the mysterious ‘Mistress’ after being abdoned  to the slums as a child. Soon she grows up and falls in love, knowing her place living outside the great city nearby.

But when a ban-wolf saves her life, Sabah begins to change.

The book synopsis says that it’s a romantic retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but I found this book to be so much more than just a children’s story. I fell in love with the world that the author created. Not that it’s a magical fairytale with talking teacups and other server ware, a dark dystopia where a beautiful girl has more than just furry beasts to worry about when civilized gentry can change one’s fate on a whim.

Sabah is the best kind of heroine; fiercely passionate and strong, but also willing to be open and vulnerable when she finally sets her sites on what her heart desires.

I felt myself wrapped in Sabah’s story; fearing, feeling, betrayed, but also growing as Sabah did. I would recommend this story to anyone that enjoys a good well rounded read. The characters are magnificently written  and the story is thoroughly entertaining.

Book Boyfriend of March

Avery from Dark Genesis by A.D. Koboah

Gentile and sweet, Avery is vampire that feels and cares. He's loyal and honest. but, this dude is no pushover, he's a vampire with an intense heart and I Luv him.

Here is my best guess at what Avery would look like if he were real ( Ian Sommerhalder or Sommerholder. The dude from The Vampire Diaries ) and I weren't endlessly in love with my husband.

No Clarity in the writing...............

Dark Clarity 

I bought this book based on some other people mentioning it on a group page that I frequent. I downloaded the sample to give it a go, but found it riddled with error after error. Finally at 20% I finally got fed up and returned it for a refund, I figure that if you're not willing to invest your hard earned money in an editor to improve your work, then I'm not willing to spend my hard earned money trying to read it.


Here are just SOME of the problems I encountered while reading this:


"I eyes popped open as I was yanked from the creatures crosshairs and slung hard against the wall"


"and wow the man was enormous, close to six and a half feet with broad shoulders,....." does not describe an enormous person, in fact it is only slightly above average height for males.


There is a tense problem, Location 2138: disappearing instead of disappeared


Many misuse/wrong words: Location 3523 "Slipped" instead of `sip' and "copse" instead of `corpse'.


Then there was the most unforgiveable of novel writing offenses; incorrect spelling:
Location 2944 "felping." Seriously? No matter what OS or program your working in there is some sort of spelling corrector built, why didn't the author use it?

Laid Bare/Blah

Zora Calloway is ready for the next stage of her life after a series of frightening leads her to pursue a new home and job. On the way she has a near-fatal collision on a country back road, the accident changes everything. She wakes up in a secluded cabin owned by bear-shifter cousins Heath, Gavin and Logan Lamere who believe that Zora's accident is fate, she’s the one they’ve been waiting for.

The Good: The Title and this is a complete story, often in the I/R genre the characters and situations feel contrived; the women insecure and the men very patient. I will say that Zora came around reasonably enough, though I would have liked to see her have more one on one situations with her  men and I also would have liked spending more time learning each man's personalit and background  

The Bad: Sorry but the Ménage à orgy thing was a turn off for me; group sex with only one woman and three straight men packing extra large heat, um no thanks.

I'm just saying: All I kept thinking was how do you develop a rhythm, wouldn't one of these guys dislike having balls in his face, cause someone besides her has a pair in their face. And, how tiring would it be to have three men to service, your body would be one giant ouch! I know, I know already, I stop reading smut and go for something with more substance. OK, I read non-smut (occasionally) but in between the hard hitting stuff can't I get my freak on?

Hunting Season by Shelly Laurenston

A story of Ravens and Crows; Neecy and Yeager; as the story unfolds we learn that Crows are a group of women who are offered a new life as champions of the goddess Skuld; Ravens are Nordic heirs and champions of the God Odin. Both fight for their Gods, both are strong and intelligent, both are trying to keep the world safe from the magic's of the other side. 

The good:
Great beginning familiar themes and plot from the author.

The bad:
Not as good as any of her other works, a little confusing, slow and the ending was beyond rushed. After a two hundred pages of build-up the bad guy was dispatched in two lines, ugh. 

I'm just sayin: Compared to her other series, I was very disappointed with this book; I didn't care about any of the characters or their stories, the background seemed to be rushed, though I was introduced to more and more crows until I got them confused with one another. There were werewolves for no other reason, mentioned more than once and given inner dialogue, though I wasn't sure what their point was. The only thing that I'm certain of is that Neecy (heroine) was annoyingly stubborn and defensive in the face of an open, honest, good man, Yeager. I hate how books drag this sort of thing out; we have all been hurt, but most sensible women (even us tough ones) know a good thing when we see it and will open up a bit, but Neecy was denial for two-hundred and thirty five pages and okay for fifty.

Overall: pass on this book an read one of this authors other gems instead

So close to being right it hurts:

 Public library borrowing on your E-reader
I love the library, that more people don't use it as a resource confounds me; it's free, there are books, it's free, nice librarians will help you find books, & it's free! How and why are people ignoring this institution? What was that? You have reasons? Pray tell: time, location, fees, debt, parking, returning, wait lists, etc. Yeah, those are all valid & I once had the same concerns, then I started borrowing through my Kindle. Yeah, that's right; you can borrow books from your local library, on-line & have them digitally delivered to your E-reader. No, Kindle is not the only reading device in existence ( I know Kindle siblings, it's the only one that matters, Yes please!), but most devices are compatible with the Digital Downloads and you can use it for free, but beware of the following issue..... 

The site itself is not that user friendly. I have to wade through similar authors and titles under a few limited categories with no satisfying way of separating the wheat from the chafe. I would love to be able to search based on my device so that I didn't have to see the title I was looking for offered in a different format, which makes me hysterically angry. And, I would also like to see a search based on new releases for my device, in case I'm trolling for some new reads 

There is a wait on some books. No really there is a wait on digital downloads, really? Really! Shouldn't digital mean limitless? Then why are their only four or 5 copies of some books? We need more books stat! Aisle 'k!" more books on aisle 'k!'

Limited catalogue; I love loads of fiction & have a tendency to read all of a series, or, all the books by a good author; but the libraries digital catalogue is limited doesn't offer many new releases. For example, The Dark Days series by Jocelyn Drake; every other book in this series is offered in the catalogue. Seriously! Why? And, what about Ron Rash, I've read all of his other books, but can't borrow his latest novel, The Cove which came out in April cause the library doesn't offer this title at all. ( My eye is twitching a little cause I really need to read The Cove, it's the only book by Rash that I haven't read and I have a bit of a problem know it exits, but I haven't read it.) 

I'm jus sayin: I understand why there is a wait; even my physical public library only has so many copies, so my digital library would as well. The copies come from Kindle/Amazon and their ultimate goal is to sell books, not give them away for free; however, if you're offering a library option than that should go for all of your books, not some or a few. All that does is infuriate me and make me scream @my computer. I am a book devourer, I still buy books, especially the ones that I love, even after I've read them from the library, Beast Behaving Badly and What a Dragon Should Know are examples of buying after reading.

Trent Kalamack of The Hollows series by Kim Harrison








In case you've never read the hollows series, here's a short synopsis: The Hollow's are the fictional neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio in the series that all the "other" type of people live; werewolves, witches, and vampires. Trent though, lives on an estate in a human suburb and is a wealthy businessman/thug and savvy entrepreneur ( Which is what my cousin pookie who sells "stuff" on the corner calls himself).was the only child of wealthy parents and philanthropist; with a dark side. Handsome, tall, athletic, powerful and intelligent Trent is almost the perfect package for the following reasons:    

Dark side: Ruthless and driven which is a good thing when it comes to business, but a bad thing when he has a scientist working for him killed for refusing to create stronger illegal drugs. Harsh right? But in Trent's mind necessary cause said drugs help the sick heal faster.

Honorable: Kind of, he does make arrangements for said scientists ill daughter to have a scholarship and trust fund. He also has several foundations for orphans, & helps the protagonist of the series several times. He also bashes her head against a gravestone, but she made him her slave(in name only), so she kind of deserved it.

Wicked sense of humor: Turned heroine into a mink; kept her in a hamster cage complete with wheel and water bottle. 

I'm just sayin: Sarcastic, intelligent and a little something other ( I'm not telling, it's a series secret) mixed into a sinful package that will challenge, protect, and honor me? Yes, Please!

Book Boyfriend of August: Conall Viga-Feilan

So, I fall in love with book characters all the time and I thought I should give them some love on my blog. This month my book boyfriend is Conall Viga-Feilan of "The Magnus Pack"series, but featured as the main character in the book "Go Fetch" by Shelly Laurenston. Viking, shape shifting wolf, and abnormally large blonde Conall is more than just character candy, he's intelligent, loyal, and grateful for his good fortune. Even, when he's "blessed" by falling in love with a mean woman who does her very best to avoid how vulnerable falling in love will make her. Miki Kendrik, the vertically challenged hacker genius (178 IQ), bartender, and outspoken friend even goes beyond the duck and dodge of the inevitable, she actually drugs the poor man to unconsciousness, and that's after she tries to get him arrested, twice! But, Conall takes it all in stride, loving her intelligence and fierce protectiveness with the same vigor that he has for her big beautifully round ass and gorgeous lips.

I would also have to stop a fistfight between him and C-Macdaddy, cause not only is he my side piece, but hubby is a diehard Chelsea fan and Beck's is the enemy. However, D.B. is delicious and my honarary (IT IS TO AN HONOR!) boyfriend of the month.

Prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour 1Peter 5:8

So, this is my second attempt at a blog; originally I started the latte diaries blog, but kind of lost site if the goal for the blog, so I thought I could get a fresh start by blogging about something that I love to do, read. At this point in my life I average about 2 books a week depending on the length of the book and my interest in reading it. Case in point, I love the Song for fire and ice series and it usually takes me about a month to finish one of the books, Mr. Martin is a very detailed writer who writes complex characters that I need to savour and marinate on. However, a book like Owner of his heart by Theodora Taylor takes me about a week, I savour these characters and marinate on them as well, but the story is not as intricate and I usually use the notes function on my Kindle Fire to save passages that I want to review later. Why BookDevour? The name actually came from my hubby who proudly declared that I was a ferocious reader to one of his friends; that made me think of one of my favorite quotes from the bible, 1Peter 5:8 "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." I have always thought that a poignant, yet scary image, so it kind of stayed with me. When my ferocious reading appetite got to the point that I was was reading three or four books a week I thought that it was time to harness my great and powerful gift (great power=great responsibility) and start reviewing books so that other Kindle users would know my opinion before they bought the book, since I usually read the reviews before purchasing. Then I thought, why not create a site dedicated to many things book? Give my reviews some web cred, so here I am. I would love to hear your opinion of any book that I review or read in any suggestions you have on what I should read next; I'm always prowling around looking for more books!
